Dynamic Force Dance 2017 Wrap Up

2017 has been an adventurous year for the Dynamic Force Dance family! From being in our first competition (and winning and placing in it) to moving into a studio space, so much has happened! Here is a quick recap of the Dynamic Force Dance highlights of 2017!

In the first quarter of 2017, (January – March) the dance team began rehearsing all new choreography for various performances. The annual basketball charity game, sponsored by Nike, requested that Dynamic Force make a second appearance! The crowd absolutely loved watching the dancers perform at the game. The older division of the dance team began preparing for competition season.

The highlight of the second quarter (April – June) was filled with performances; but the most notable was participation in the Spotlight Competition, which was held May 5.  The older division worked very hard, adding extra training and rehearsals to ensure a job well done. It paid off, because not only did they place 2nd in overall competition; but won 1st place in their division! Absolutely amazing!

July through September was very busy! In July, Dynamic Force had their first Summer recital! Not only that, our student exchange program from Brooklyn, New York, came as guest performers for the recital! The company, owned by “Jerzey,” as he is called, is named Lotus We Create. Our children had a great time meeting with the students of Lotus. A few even made new social media penpal friends!

August and September’s time was spent by the owner of Dynamic Force, Sheena Baskerville, on closing for a new studio space. It was time! It came down to three choices, but it was decided to go with the current studio that is now in the Lacuna Artist Loft building.  This space was selected because it is a space for artists to grow. It was the perfect place to start her new journey!

Quarter four, which is October – December, by far has been a whirlwind for the company! In October, Sheena and manager, Chanelle, were honored to be asked to choreograph for the Ford “Sister-Strut Walk.” The Sister Strut Walk is one of the biggest walks for breast cancer, held not only in Chicago but in cities nationwide. The ladies had the pleasure of demonstrating the dance for FOX in the Morning anchors, Kendra G and Darlene Hill.  Two weeks later, the ladies spoke on the WGCI Morning Show about the dance.  A few days later, they had the pleasure of teaching the dance to the crowd at the walk.  It was a humbling experience.

October also was the month where the studio officially opened! The Dynamic Force parents and children adored their new home. There was a grand opening celebration, and that night, the students could not get enough of the space!

Adult classes have now also been added! We started in October with “Sexy Heels,” for Beginners and Seductive Dance.  This new year will have those classes, but we have added: Trap Heels, Belly Dancing, Zumba, and even a Stepper’s workshop for our adult audience.

Dynamic Force ended the year by Sheena being honored by Kendra G at WGCI at a brunch ( insert name of brunch/award you received here—had a brain freeze cannot remember! Talk about the award and why you were honored) There, students Amber and Ellyis performed a beautiful duet.

Dynamic Force closed the year by hosting their annual winter recital. The children of both the team and studio classes, worked hard to make it a success. The 2.0 Reloaded (little division) did their first live acting performance and musical, performing an excerpt from “The Wiz.”  The Hip Hop classes were highlighted, and nearly stole the show! All in all, it was a wonderful recital, and the Dynamic Force instructors couldn’t have asked for more.

Coming in 2018: The annual Nike basketball show, competitions, New York City visit for the team, more adult classes, and much more! We are looking forward to what is to come! Happy New Year, and we look forward to our students’ return January 6, 2018.
